New Policy for Comprehensive Exam Commitees
Starting with exams in May 2010, the English Department will be following BSU requirements for comprehensive exam committees and dissertation committees as found in the Graduate Handbook. Our committees are now required to include a member-at-large from another department. The member-at-large should see your reading list, and they must be included in any discussions about exam questions that your other committee members have. They may choose to read the written exam questions, but they are required to attend your oral exam vote. For additional details on this new policy, please read the attached document file below.

GSAB Book Sale a Smashing Success
Thanks to the efforts of staff, faculty, and students of the Department of English, the GSAB Book Sale raised $630 for our graduate student travel grant fund. We appreciate everyone who donated books or money, worked the sale, or bought books from us. We are also grateful to Sharon, Jama, and Shawna for helping us with all the logistics of storing books, promoting the event, ordering tables, depositing the money...all the details! We couldn't have done it without all of you! We'll most likely hold a similar event next semester, so let us know if you have books to donate. The grad students don't have an official storage space, but we have been doing our best to collect items in our offices and the grad lounge.
PCM 2010 Scheduled
9.8.09: Mark your calendars! PCM 2010: "Bridging the Gap" will take place on Friday, February 5. Ashley Ellison (Ph.D. Linguistics) and Dani Weber agreed to co-chair the conference. Watch for e-mails regarding the first PCM committee meeting and other conference information.
GSAB Picnic
8.22.09: The GSAB Picnic, held on Saturday, August 22, was a huge success. A special thanks to everyone in our department who took time out of their busy last weekend before the official start of the semester to attend, bring food, help with the grill, etc. We especially extend our gratitude to Emily and Tex Standridge who offered up their home for the event. Check out the GSAB Facebook page to see pictures from the picnic, courtesy of Jim Chambers.
Graduate Lounge
8.20.09: The English Department Graduate Student Lounge has been moved to Robert Bell 244. A limited number of keys are available for distribution. If you do not have an office space and would like a key to the new lounge, please see Sharon Hillman in the English Department Office.
